1 dies in crash during police chase

A driver fleeing from police caused a crash that claimed the life of the other motorist.
The 41-year-old driver was being chased by police after he made a U-turn to avoid a license checkpoint. Less than a minute later, he ran a red light at the intersection of Parkwood and Davidson Street, where he collided with another vehicle. The other vehicle then collided with the side of a house, killing the 25-year-old driver.

Man Charged in Crash that Killed Marine

Police say charges are pending against a man from Carrol County, North Carolina who allegedly drove the wrong way on an Interstate Saturday, causing a fatal crash.
According to information given by a Douglas County 911 center, 71 year-old Bruce Quayle was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 in a 2008 Chevy Silverado, Saturday afternoon, in the path of a Mitsubishi Mirage driven by a couple from Alabama.
Gregory Suedmeyer, a 21 year-old Marine Lance Corporal, was driving the Mitsubishi at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at Grady Hospital about two hours after the crash. Suedmeyer’s wife, 19 year-old Katelyn Suedmeyer, is listed in critical but stable condition at Atlanta Medical Center.
According to a report released by the Cobb County Police Department, Quale suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.
Investigators have not determined why Quayle was driving the wrong way.

Woman Facing DUI, Felony in Fatal North Carolina Car Crash

A woman in North Carolina has been charged with drunken driving and felony death by vehicle in connection with a fatal car crash.
According to officials with the Raleigh Police Deparment, 27 year-old Raleigh-resident Manuela Mantanona Gomez was responsible for a crash Saturday, that killed 24 year-old John Sullivan of Charlotte, South Carolina. Authorities say Gomez smashed into the back of a vehicle stopped at a red light, in which Sullivan was a passenger.
Sullivan was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Two other people in the vehicle with Sullivan were injured in the wreck. Police described their injuries as non-life-threatening; they were unable to give any details about the nature and extent of their injuries.
Gomez was also injured in the wreck and transported to WakeMed for treatment, police say. A spokesman for the hospital said Sunday that Gomez is in good condition.

15 Year-Old Boy Killed in North Carolina Crash

A teenage boy was killed in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday in North Carolina.
According to officials with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, 15 year-old Dustin Craig Stillwell was a passenger in a friend’s Honda which crashed near the intersection of Boggs Dairy Road and Lake Road. Stillwell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers would not give details pertaining to the cause of the accident and did not identify the driver of the vehicle. Stillwell’s sister, Selena Gunter, said her brother was with a friend who did not yet have his driver’s license.
“They were just being teens and snuck around.” Gunter said.

Woman Charged with Felony Death in Fatal Crash

A Winston-Salem woman is facing charges of felony death by vehicle following a one-car DWI accident that killed three people.
Police officials say Amanda Sperduti will face three charges of felony death by vehicle in connection with an accident that occurred on February 13 in Browns Summit. Sperduti was reportedly driving twice the posted speed limit of 45 mph at the time of the crash. She lost control of her vehicle and struck a tree.
The three passengers in the vehicle with Sperduit were killed in the wreck. 23 year-old Scott Bedwell, 18 year-old Taylor McCaskill, and 18 year-old Sascha Hoffmann were all pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
In addition to the felonies, Sperduti is also charged with one count misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and one count of misdemeanor exceeding a safe speed. She is being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

Two Killed in Lexington Car Crash

Two men were killed in an early morning car accident in Lexington, North Carolina Monday.
According to officials with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a 23 year-old and 28 year-old man were traveling west on Odell Owen Road shortly before 4:00 a.m. Monday when the crash occurred. The driver of the car appears to have lost control of the vehicle while attempting to navigate a curve. The car collided with a guardrail, left the roadway and struck several trees before crashing into a ravine.
Trooper say both men in the vehicle were killed in the wreck. Police have not released the names of the men pending notification of their families.

Man Seriously Injured in North Carolina DWI Crash

A man is in the hospital with serious injuries following a DWI crash Tuesday night.
According to police, 26 year-old Lloyd Williw Jacobs ran a red light in downtown Wilmington and smashed into another vehicle shortly before 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Officers responding to the scene of the accident were able to determine that Jacobs was at fault. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Jacobs now faces charges of driving while intoxicated, driving during revocation, and other traffic violations. This is Jacobs fourth DWI arrest since 2006; he is being charged as a repeat offender. He is being held in lieu of a $15,000 bond.

1 Killed, 2 Injured in North Carolina Car Accident

A man was killed and two women seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on North Carolina 68.
According to North Carolina State Police officials, 47 year-old Denny Lopez was traveling south on N.C. 68 in a Toyota Corolla when he was struck by a Chevy Suburban, driven by 35 year-old Sarah McClary. The accident occurred near the Mendenhall Oaks Parkway intersection.
Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene, police say. His wife, 51 year-old Dora Lopez, was transported to the High Point Regional Hospital with serious injuries. Her condition is not known.
McClary sustained minor injuries in the crash.
