A soldier from Kennewick, North Carolina is in a coma after his car crashed into a tree.
Caleb Darling, a 23 year-old veteran of two tours in Afghanistan, has been in a coma since February 10. The soldier’s mother-in-law, Joy Bankston, said Darling’s injuries require multiple surgeries.
Darling and his wife Kathleen were en-route to Beulaville, N.C., when a teenage driver pulled out of a driveway in front of their vehicle. Swerving to avoid the car, Caleb lost control of the vehicle, left the road and slammed into a tree. The couple was transported to Pitt County Memorial Hospital following the accident.
Kathleen sustained only minor injuries in the crash. “He got it all.” said Bankston. “It’s his left side that’s pretty banged up… The roof of the car caved in on the left side of his head.
