The wife of a man who was killed by a woman who was using a cell phone while driving has agreed to a $5 million settlement.
Sharon King was driving and talking on her cell phone in 2007 when she struck and killed two bicyclists: 49 year-old Thomas Hoskins and 43 year-old Lee Anne Barry. Hoskins’ wife Sherri, 52, was pleased with the settlement, saying “It’s been a long time and difficult time… We are forever changed, my kids are fatherless.”
Dick Harpootlian, one of Hoskins’ attorneys, said “We believe the cell phone was the major cause of the crash.”
Under the terms of the settlement agreement, Hoskins will receive $3.6 million, and the remaining $1.3 million will cover legal fees.
